I Sail On

by ~genoboost

Against the wind I hold true
Myself, the world, the ocean, blue
Over the sea on which I float
The cold of the night, a black overcoat
Not the faintest of light reaches my eyes
Rain splatters down, and cold winds rise
This broken ocean, I sail along
waves of doubt, and decisions made wrong
but I breathe and I strive
One day I'll arrive
A faint light will grow
above the ripples and rows
The sea remains blue, but I sail on
Beyond the waves, a light calls eternal, and I sail on

Made this one for the 2010 Final Annual Contest from the #WordsNeverFail group.

If you like this poem, please head over to this poll LINK and vote for it. It is very much appreciated!

The theme is inspiration. Mine starts out kind of dreary, but what is inspiration and hope without some adversity?

This poem went over a couple big redrafts before I found all the right words I wanted. When having to do something under a specific limit of words (this contest was 100 words or less, I clocked in at 94) it is really stifling at first, but after a few redrafts I noticed that I didn't need so many words to begin with. Such is the power of editing.

I am just one of about 40 entries, so this should be some stiff competition.
